ROUGHING IT

ROUGHING IT

Some characters are capable of surviving in a fantasy setting without using any powers or gaining any magic. All players have the option of not giving a character any powers at all and forcing them to interact with the setting with non-powered abilities.

This option is best suited to characters who already have abilities like combat skills, weapons training, or survival skills. If a character does not have any such skills, then they should at least be capable of being trained and learning such skills from other PCs or NPCs in different locations throughout the game world.

While characters who decide to rough it will largely have to rely on their own skills to get by, they will occasionally have the chance to obtain one-time use talismans or magical objects to use in addition to their skills and abilities. These can be requested as activity rewards and will be decided completely at random by RNG.

MAGICAL ITEMS

Characters that have no powers (aka are Roughing It) can spend power boons during AC to gain either (2) low-level, one-time-use magical items or (1) multiple use or permanent high-powered magical item. The player can choose which type of item they'd like and the mods will RNG the items from a list or make up something character appropriate.

One-time-use items have abilities that are equivalent to "potions" or other rewards in video games, temporarily providing such things as minor healing or allowing a weapon to be poisoned. If part of a normal AC reward for activity bonus, these can usually only be activated by the character that earned them but can be used on another character if they choose.

Multiple use or permanent items are more powerful, doing things like providing good luck charms or minor buff effects for a longer period of time. These can usually only be used by and on the character that earned them.
